Brushing teeth. Toddlers need a soft-bristled toothbrush and non-fluoridated toothpaste; it is unsafe to swallow fouride, this way incase they do swallow it, it wont harm them.

Children often want to brush their teeth on their own, this is a great practice, but be sure to always brush after them, to make sure they got all the nook’s and crannys!

First visit to the dentist.

It is recomended that you should schedule the first dentist visit shortly after your child’s first birthday. Don’t expect a full examination. This visit is more to educate both you and your child about future visits by showing the equipment and introducing staff.

During the visit, the dentist is also likely to outline a few bad habits you might be unknowingly guilty of, such as putting your little one to bed with a bottle of milk or juice, or having her suck on a sippy cup all day long. “That’s like sipping a can of pop all day — you’ll get more dental disease that way than if you drank the whole can at once,” says Dr. Kowolik. The problem: the milk or juice is constantly bathing the teeth in sugary fluids. Instead, save those drinks for meals only, and let your child drink water in between and when she’s going to bed

RECALL! Drop-side Cribs by Pottery Barn Kids

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

Pottery Barn kids is offering a free kit to fix the malfunctioning drop side featured on their cribs sold across Canada From 2003-2010.

“The crib’s hardware can break or become damaged, causing the drop-side to detach. If the drop-side detaches, it could create a space between the side of the crib and the mattress. Infants and toddlers could roll into this space and become entrapped, which could lead to suffocation or strangulation, or they could fall out of the crib.”

For more information, consumers may contact Pottery Barn Kids toll-free at 1-877-804-3847.

Be carful if you are a parent or caregiver that is using a sling for your newborn! Canada has recalled more than 15,000 Infantino “Sling Rider” and “Wendy Ballisimo” slings, due to deaths in babies fewer than 4 months of age. Though it is not stated what has caused these death’s in the States it is cautioned that the fabric of the sling and an adult’s body can press against the infant’s nose and mouth, posing a risk of suffocation.

The company is offering a free replacement baby carrier, activity gym or shopping–cart cover to any consumer affected by the recall. The company’s president Jack Vresics said in a statement; “Our top priority is the safety of infants whose parents and caregivers use our products”

These products were sold in various stores such as Babies R’ Us, Winners, and other children’s stores across Canada. The “Wendy Ballisimo” slings were sold exclusively to Babies R’ Us, Sears and Winners, Health Canada says.
